Confessions of a teenage asshole

"Appreciation is the purest, strongest form of love. It is the outward-bound kind of love that asks for nothing and gives everything."

Kelly Corrigan, The Middle Place (via purplebuddhaproject)

"Life is glorious, but life is also wretched. It is both. Appreciating the gloriousness inspires us, encourages us, cheers us up, gives us a bigger perspective, energizes us. We feel connected. But if that’s all that’s happening, we get arrogant and start to look down on others, and there is a sense of making ourselves a big deal and being really serious about it, wanting it to be like that forever. The gloriousness becomes tinged by craving and addiction. On the other hand, wretchedness—life’s painful aspect—softens us up considerably. Knowing pain is a very important ingredient of being there for another person. When you are feeling a lot of grief, you can look right into somebody’s eyes because you feel you haven’t got anything to lose—you’re just there. The wretchedness humbles us and softens us, but if we were only wretched, we would all just go down the tubes. We’d be so depressed, discouraged, and hopeless that we wouldn’t have enough energy to eat an apple. Gloriousness and wretchedness need each other. One inspires us, the other softens us. They go together."

"As time goes on, you’ll understand. What lasts, lasts; what doesn’t, doesn’t. Time solves most things. And what time can’t solve, you have to solve yourself."

it’s so cute when you talk to someone a lot and then you notice the little phrases that you use and the stupid little things you say slipping into their vocabulary more and more

"Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life."

dearnonacepeople:

People defend capitalism by saying that capitalism is the only system that works. Ask someone who’s homeless how capitalism is working for them or those in sweatshops or those unable to get adequate healthcare or education. Capitalism is continuing the destruction of our earth, creating economic inequality, perpetuating classism, racism, ableism, child labor, and so much more. Capitalism doesn’t work, it kills.

My right wrist has been in bad bad shape lately, so I’m back to working with my non-dominant hand until I finish a couple rounds with doctors.  Yesterday my personal challenge was fine detail x Ivan Bilibin.

immigrantgirls:

rly i encourage all the girls of colour, esp black girls, to invade creative spaces that are occupied by white women. the exclusion of girls of colour in creative spaces is a conscious decision, dont walk around believing that it’s just a coincidence. if u see only white girls on a staff page, know there’s a reason behind that. and dont let that shit thrive. let ppl kno u r alive.
